The Last Assassin: a novel by Barry Eisler

It's Raining Dead Bodies**** October 2, 2006

This is Barry Eisler's fifth John Rain thriller and the first I've read. Japanese-American assassin John Rain leaves a litter of corpses all over the landscape as he tackles Japanese gangster Yamaoto and Yamaoto's Chinese triad allies. They have discovered the wherabouts of Rain's child and its mother, Midori. The child was the product of a one-night liason but the situation is complicated because Rain had killed Midori's father.

Meanwhile Rain may be in love with Israeli contract killer, Delilah. Rain goes to Japan to take down Yamaoto and his allies. In the end he succeeds with the help of Delilah and another assassin, Dox. But in so doing he realizes that he lost any hope of sharing his son with Midori.

This novel is an action thriller with lots of fighting and corpses. It zips along at a torrid pace and before you realize you are at the end.

While I have some reservations I expect to be dipping into the earlier John Rain series.
